confrontation between israel and the palestinians has a new dimension tonight. egypt's new islamist government is promising to stand by the palestinians and is telling israel to end its air strikes on gaza. this as palestinians fire rockets at jerusalem and israel calls up 16,000 reservists, increasing the likelihood of a full scale ground war. correspondent david lee miller is near the israel-gaza border tonight. >> for the third day in a row, israelis ran from cover fired by palestinian militants in controlled gaza. more than 150 attacks were launched in the southern israel, that caused panic and destruction, but no fatalities. for the first time in the current conflict, air raid sirens were heard in jerusalem where two rockets apparently landed in empty fields outside of the city and the second day in a row, israel's largest city tel aviv was under attack, and a rocket in an unpopulated area, the rockets fired by palestinian militants now put more than 4 million israelis in their cross hairs, at this tel aviv cafe, it was business as usual after the air raid sirens stopped. >> my first reac

west. thank you for starting your day with us. we start this morning in israel where troops are massing on the border with gaza this morning. the move comes days after back and forth bombardments. israel has launched dozens of air strikes while militants in gaza have fired nearly 200 rockets into israel. we are on both sides of the border in the line of fire. our sara sidner is in gaza city. let's go to southern israel where israeli tanks are on the move. the israeli defense forces say at least 30,000 troops are being mobilized along the border with gaza and thousands more are getting their marching orders. as we said, cnn's frederick is live along the border. you have been on the front lines there. what type of military activity are you seeing? >> hi, randi. a lot of military activity going on here between the border area between gaza and israel. we just had armored vehicles come through here and moving in closer to the border. of course, a lot of people believe that israelis must launch a ground offensive into gaza quite soon and we are seeing a lot of troops really near the border of

to tell you about this morning, and israel promising to ramp up attacks on gaza after militants continued their assault on the country. hamas firing at least one missile at tel aviv overnight, but israeli officials say that it was intercepted by their iron dome. the israeli military responded with air strikes hitting two media centers in the gaza strip area at least five palestinians were killed. israel says they'll launch more targeted and deadly attacks at rocket launching sites and hamas commanders if it continues. a deadly attack in thailand hours before president obama's visit. he's there kicking off the first leg of his visit in asia, two were killed after detonating a bomb at a train. the second attack, one person died when a motorcycle bomb exploded. a such continues for the remaining crew member missing from the oil rig explosion in the gulf of mexico. the body of the other missing crew member was found by the drivers after the coast garden terd the search. and the coast guard says no oil leaked from the platform, concerns that this would be another disaster just like the explosi

, there are three major stories we're following. israel seems on the brink of all-out war with hamas. tanks and troops appear to be preparing for a ground war. here, stateside, republicans met at the state house to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff. earlier today, general david petraeus said that the cia talking points meant for the susan rice appearance recentlyally contain the information that there was evidence of al qaeda's elements involved in this attack. but it appears as if those talking points were altered by the white house or somebody close to the white house to remove any reference to al qaeda's involvement in the attacks. we have yet to discover who has changed the talking points to make the president look for favorable and mislead you, by falsely labeling the 9/11 attacks over spontaneous mob over the video. petraeus has no idea what was provided to rice or who was the author of the talking points that she used that, he had no idea she was going on the talk shows until the white house announced it one or two days before. now, the looming question is, in this coverup, who did it

, our starting point this morning, israel mobilizing thousands of troops for a possible full-scale ground war with hamas. violence in the region intensifying overnight. the palestinian militants launched hundreds of rockets into israeli territory. air raid sirens sounding in tel aviv. that's the very first time that's happened since the gulf war. israelis responded by pounding hundreds of terror sites as they call them in gaza with artillery fire. ben wedeman reporting live now from jerusalem. we know, ben, that the israelis have called up 16,000 reservists. what exactly are they going to be doing? >> well, what they'll be doing is heading down into the area around gaza. very similar to what we saw in 2008, 2009, when they had a similar outbreak of violence between the two sides. we also know that there's a lot of heavy armor, lots of tanks being transported to the area around gaza, as well, for a possible ground incursion. but what we saw back in 2008-2009, was that it was several days of fairly intense israeli air strikes that preceded ground invasions. now what we've heard
